Tanglewood opened in the summer of 1949 and was named for the book Tanglewood Tales, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The developer came from a part of the country with hills, so he curved the streets and landscaped to create interest. Residents often stroll along the trail at the Tanglewood Boulevard median, which is lined with live oaks and crape myrtles.
